The article deals with research of punctuation culture in the regional newspaper «Visnyk Demydivshchyny» (Journal of Demydivka Area) at the level of sentences with separate members. In the age of information society, media professionals, who are given the high level of trust among readers, should take care not only of the content of the material, but also of its linguistic aspect. However, in contemporary journalistic texts, one can often trace violations of the norms of the Ukrainian standard language at various levels, including punctuation, which results in a requirement for an analysis of the language culture of the media. Difficulties in editing materials are added by the semantic load and the authors' desire to emphasise certain sentence members in tone. Various types of punctuation errors also occur while using separate components and this fact determines the relevance of the proposed research.
The objectives of the research are to analyze punctuation culture of sentences with separate members on material of the regional newspaper «Visnyk Demydivshchyny»; to differentiate detected abnormities by frequency; to determine the degree of linguistic risk for each type. The factual material was selected from 50 issues of the regional edition for 2022. Typical positions of mandatory and optional use of punctuation marks are distinguished. Error-prone places are systematised by the type of a separated sentence member.
Results. It was found that in most of the recorded cases the authors of journalistic materials optionally separate phrases with prepositional compounds in accordance with, according to, in connection with, etc. The separation of adverbial modifiers expressed by participial phrases is marked with the highest degree of linguistic risk. Less frequent errors are related to the punctuation of a separate apposition. Occasionally, abnormalities are observed in sentences with a separate attribute, which is most often expressed by a participial phrase. There are some sporadic errors when separating an object. The most frequent abnormalities are connected with the use of extra punctuation mark. There are fewer examples of omission of the required punctuation mark.
