Ukrainian by conscious choice: life and scientific achievements of Ahatanhel Krymsky in documents and materials of the Volyn Museum of Local Lore
Abstract
The article presents considerations about the life and scientific achievements of the outstanding scientist Ahatanhel Krymsky. Particular attention is paid to the preservation of the scientific heritage of the academician in the funds of the Volyn Museum of Local Lore, which determines the purpose of this study. It is noted that the name of the scientist was banned for a long time and only his posthumous rehabilitation in the late 1950s allowed historians and researchers to gradually return the name of A. Krymsky and make him known to the community. Since then, the study of the scientific heritage of the scientist, the publication and republishing of his works began. Another important area of activity in order to preserve and promote the name of the scientist was the search and collection work of relevant institutions. We are talking about museums. It should be noted that not only the museum in Zvenigorodka, where A. Krymsky's family lived, is engaged in this work. Since the Crimean family was founded in Volodymyr and it was here that Ahatanhel Yukhymovich was born, Volyn museum institutions are also actively involved in collecting materials dedicated to the life and work of the academician and popularizing his name. One of such museums is the Volyn Museum of Local Lore, where a stock collection of documents and materials dedicated to A. Krymsky began to be formed in the 1970s. This article is devoted to its analysis. In particular, the material outlines the history of replenishment of the stock collection, as well as analyzes the main groups of materials. It was determined that all existing documents and materials in accordance with museum standards and requirements are divided into items of the main and research support fund. Among them are groups of photographic documents, lifetime publications, dedications, posthumous editions of works by A. Krymsky, photocopies, copies of documents and materials in honor of the memory of the academician. The analysis shows that the funds of the Volyn Museum of Local Lore contain a significant, albeit small, collection of materials, the existence of which allows museum scholars to organize exhibitions, popular science events dedicated to Ahatanhel Krymsky, which involves students and pupils, ordinary citizens. In this way, museum workers promote the name of an outstanding countryman, open it to the public, thus enriching our national culture.
