Abstract

The article summarizes the achievements of modern Ukrainian literary studies in the field of the “Young Poland”
era: modern literary studies of the outlined period are analyzed; the relevant and perspective research directions of study of early Polish modernism are traced. The main
theoretical positions of the selected scientific works are briefly formulated. V. Morenets reveals that Ukrainian Modernism, unlike European (Polish), was unable to depart from folklore culture, although it implemented the themes of love, sorrow and suicidal moods in a new way. T. Tkachuk proves that the significantly more intense development of Polish modernism was generally due to a higher level of preparedness of Polish literature for the perception of “artistic inventions” of European modernists. O. Sukhomlynov finds out the essence of the “Polish modernist revolt”, briefly reveals the main principles of the aesthetic theory of the “Young Poland”. E. Tsikhovska examines the peculiarities of L. Staff's artistic and philosophical assimilation of the dream phenomenon, positioning his work as a reflection of the decadent moods of the “Young Poland” era. E. Nakhlik shows common and distinctive features in the personifications of the human soul by the poets of “Young Poland” and “Young Muse”. S. Yamborko reveals the creative relations of V. Stefanyk with the inspirer of the “Young Poland” era – S. Przybyshevsky. H. Korbych assures that the publications of Ukrainian critics of the XIX-XX centuries about Polish modernism
prepared the Ukrainian reader for a generally positive perception of the new aesthetic phenomenon. O. Stanychnov suggests that some of the fundamental principles of Polish modern painting were also characteristic of the literary art, and modernist art
grew largely out of the collaboration of writers and artists. A. Semenov briefly characterizes the main factors of the development of Polish patriotic poetry from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, focusing separately on the patriotic poetry of the “Young Poland” era. A. Soviak reveals the linguistic and literary parameters of the
floral symbols of the “Young Poland” poetry. D. Kovalova explores the themes, issues, meanings of expressing sensuality and physicality in the women's lyrics of the “Young Poland” era through the prism of feminist discourse.

As a result, it was established that in Ukrainian literary studies still lacks thorough scientific research which would comprehensively and systematically present a general picture of the development of the “Young Poland” era’s lyrics of the late 19th and early 20th centuries according to thematic, stylistic and genre characteristics.
