«Between the Way of the Warrior and the Tao»: literary self-portrait of V. Slapchuk

Abstract

The article focuses on the problem of authorial subjectivity in the book of essays and interviews by V. Slapchuk “Between the Path of 
a Warrior and the Tao” (2011). The purpose of the publication is to characterize V. Slapchuk's literary self-portrait based on an analysis of the specifics of the expression of the author's subjectivity. Research methodology. In addition to general scientific methods  (analysis, generalization, induction, deduction), the research methodology is based on the methods of literary science, in particular receptive-aesthetic, partly structuralism, hermeneutics, and narratology.
Research results. It has been observed that “Between the Path of the Warrior and the Tao” by V. Slapchuk is a highly personal book that claims to reveal the author’s 
portrait through essays, interviews, and critical reviews. It has been studied that the dialogical openness of the interview, provoked by looking at oneself through the eyes of others, bears fruit in the knowledge of the writer, and the freedom of the essay genre 
makes it possible to include personal reflections and a statement of one's position on the problems raised. It is noted that the creator of the text reveals a personal attitude to the reader, so the subjective individual-authorial worldview paradigm is absolutized. 
The article traces that the small form does not always allow for extensive citations of cases from one's life or stories from experience, so the author limits himself to brief mentions or, as conclusions, presents the reader with excerpts from his life position in the form of meditative theorizing. Between reflections on existential or literary themes, V. Slapchuk provides the touches with which he forms his literary self-portrait. The conclusions emphasize that with the help of the author's subjectivity, a 
literary self-portrait of V. Slapchuk was formed in the book of essays and interviews.
