Abstract

The subject of this study is the analysis of the life situation of women in Afghanistan during the Taliban rule in 1994–2001. The author emphasizes that the interpretation of Islamic teachings and the historical, political, and cultural context are crucial to
understanding the limitations that affected women during this period. Before the Taliban rule, women had some successes in terms of equality, such as gaining the right to education and decent work. The Taliban government introduced severe restrictions, including a ban on paid employment, education in educational institutions, as well as dress codes and the obligation for women to stay at home. After their overthrow in 2001, women began to regain their rights and freedoms, but after 2021, the situation in Afghanistan is precarious again. This analysis is crucial for describing the future of the country and the region, as well as for understanding the role of culture, history, and religion in shaping the position of women in Afghan society.

The aim of the article is to examine the real situation of women in Afghanistan during the reign of the Taliban and to determine the impact of these governments on their social position and everyday life. In addition, the possible implications of these actions for the future of the country and the current situation of women in Afghanistan will be explored. The contribution of the dissertation to the discipline of social sciences is a theoretical novelty in the field of research on the role of culture, history, and religion in shaping the position of women in society. This analysis can help develop new theories about the impact of historical and cultural context, as well as interpretations of Islamic teachings, on the position of women in different communities. During the research process, the comparative method, elements of the methodology of historical cognition, quantitative and qualitative approaches, as well as the extrapolation method were used.
